Specialized Internship, Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care


The specialized internship is planned to prepare the candidate for a residency program in Emergency and Critical care. Successful candidates participate at the emergency service and at patient care in the ICU as well as at the blood bank and extracorporeal therapy program of the clinic.
To take part in this programme, candidates should have successfully completed a one-year rotating internship or an equivalent education. Sufficient German language skills are mandatory (level B2 of the Common European Framework).
The Clinic of Small Animal Medicine has boarded specialists in internal medicine (9), oncology (1), neurology (1), cardiology (1), dermatology (1), emergency and critical care (1) as well as clinical pathology (1).
Residency programmes in oncology, internal medicine, dermatology, neurology, cardiology and emergency and critical care are part of the clinic. High quality equipment and services, such as radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, MRI, CT, and in-house clinical pathology laboratory, are available. An emergency service intensive care unit staffed 24 hours 7 days a week is also present.

The College of Veterinary Medicine of the LMU University is located in the centre of Munich directly at the beautiful English Garden. Munich is very close to the German Alps as well as to several beautiful lakes, and the region provides easy access to numerous outdoor activities, including hiking, climbing, skiing, and biking.
